Lavender, a flower so widely loved that it even gives its name to a shade of purple, is one such example, yet its very popularity can ironically lead it to be overlooked by those of us seeking more eye-catching and exotic-looking displays or arrangements with a stricter colour theme. A little bit of lavender lore
Lavender is a member of the mint family and various lavender species are found across Europe, Asia and Africa and have been cultivated by humans for centuries. It has been used in foods, herbal medicines, oils, fragrances and has even been deployed as an insect deterrent, though our dried lavender is exclusively for display! Its ornamental value has also been appreciated throughout history so its use in floral arrangements has a good pedigree!
Displaying Lavender
An often-understated flower, lavender is great for supporting other larger flowers in bouquets and providing form and colour. Its calming shades also allow it to blend in well with a wide range of flowers without dominating them with garish hues. Its calming paleness allows it to support even largely white flowers such as lilies without seeming intrusive, whilst giving the displays an additional elegance.
Indeed, we stock dried lavender in mixed bunches with other flowers! This includes pairings of lavender with the creams and whites of Bunny Tails and Baby’s Breath, a combination of smaller flower heads that mutually support each other and garner an equal focus when viewed. A similar character can be evoked from other bunches, which include plants ranging from poppy heads to wheat and grass, while they work to support bolder flowers in their pairings with purple Helichrysum and yellow roses.
We also stock lavender on its own, so you can pair it with the flowers you wish or display it on its own. It makes for excellent wedding confetti too! These bunches weigh around 85g, with each stem around 45cm in length. Stem lengths vary in the mixed bunches, and we would recommend viewing the product description for each bunch.
Care tips for dried lavender
As with any of our dried flowers, there’s no need to water them! In fact, water can damage them, so we would advise keeping them away from moist environments. Extremely dry surroundings should also be avoided as this can make your flowers brittle. We would also recommend keeping them out of direct sunlight as their hues will fade with prolonged exposure. If your lavender gets dusty, you should blow it lightly with a hairdryer from a moderate distance for the best results.
How long does our dried lavender last?
Our dried lavender is carefully harvested to preserve its hues and can keep its colour for over a year, a feat matched by the other species of flower included in the mixed bunches. With attentive care, our dried lavender can even last above two years, so they can be a calming and elegant long-term feature of your home!
